We had a nice family stay with us at the Naugas recently. They were from Westlake, Austin, Texas…mom, dad and 2 kids. They homeschool their children, so can travel whenever they want.
They told us that they sometimes have a Westlake tutor come in to help the kids learn if mom and dad are not up to the task. For example, neither parent is good at math, so if there is an algebra, geometry, trigonometry or calculus problem that they can’t figure out, they call the tutor for help.
The girl is gifted and talented, and they say they know a particular Westlake tutor who brings new exciting ideas and projects for that child to challenge her and expand her mind.
The boy is also smart, in his own ways. Mom said they read some books by Howard Gardner on Seven Intelligences, so now they understand that the son’s intelligences tent more toward the linguistic and intrapersonal.
They left after a couple of days, headed west toward more fun and education.
